By 1985 Susan was increasingly comfortable in portraying the world of the shaman, with its magical substance and flow. Here we see a Native American woman with her arms open, surrounded by birds in flight. Susan has somehow conveyed the movement of these birds – we can all but hear the beating of the wings. Notice the marvelous detailing in the woman's animal-skin coat conveying a tactile sense of its surface. 

Speaking about this piece, Susan said: "She's opening her arms and in doing so is releasing – probably from her heart or her emotions – both light and dark. So it's a process of integration. And also of release." 

"Shadowplay" is limited in edition to one-thousand. Each print is numbered in the margins and blind-stamped to insure authenticity. The image is printed on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag, Bright White, 310gsm, smooth matte, 100% cotton archival paper, using state-of-the-art archival inks. Each print has full margins.
