This very large and wonderfully detailed early work portrays two of Susans's much loved early subjects, family and her memories of Brazil in her youth.
The detailing in Susan’s beautiful, dreamlike portrayal of this new family, is created through the prolific use of sgraffito. Abundant, large trees, painted horizontally, follow the line of the central characters’ dress, whose complex bodice and sleeves are lacy and multi patterned. Foliage and fauna fill the backgrounds. A quaint village, is represented in the upper right, and shows four women dancing as they return home. A vignette of a bearded forest character and his horse appears lower left. Fine detail and color throughout this warm and poignant story.
This original work has been re-framed with an antiqued silvered & gilt, custom wood frame. Archival double-matted with a paper bottom mat and a suede top mat. Acid-free materials throughout and re-glazed with Conservation Clear, Tru-Vue, UV protective glass. Signed by Susan Seddon Boulet bottom-right. Dated AUG 72.
