A lyrical portrayal of the Greek God Pan, a subject Susan returned to often. A subtle blending of birds, leaves and flowers surround and entwine the central image while Susan's ever present moon creates a warm glow throughout the piece. Pan was a lover of nymphs, who in Greek mythology were generally considered personifications of nature and who commonly shunned his advances.

In the myth, the nymph Syrinx fled Pan, ran to a nearby pond and begged her sister nymphs to protect her. They disguised her by transforming her into a clump of reeds, out of which Pan crafted his mythical flute.

Susan's sgraffito technique creates the detailed imagery in this sensitive and intriguing piece.

This original work has been re-framed with an antiqued gilt, custom wood frame. Archival double matted with suede bottom and top mats. Acid-free materials throughout and re-glazed with Conservation Clear, Tru-Vue, UV protective glass. Signed by Susan Seddon Boulet bottom-right. Dated Sept 79.
