A palimpsest is defined as “a manuscript effaced for re-use, but where layered traces of the original writings remain.” Susan chose this title to reflect the diverse layering through which the central character evolves; where aspects of each layer of the woman’s wholeness are apparent beneath the surface. Please Note: Shipping to continental United States is $10.00 per order.
She later chose this piece to represent Ishtar, the Babylonian goddess who journeyed to the Underworld. Susan described the piece as showing "the re-emergence after we have been in a dark, transformative space." The piece was painted in 1991 as Susan was emerging from her own dark, transformative space brought about by breast cancer. It held great personal meaning for Susan, who kept the piece for her personal collection.
