"Faun and Butterfly"

From Michael Babcock: “Susan enjoyed working in water color from time to time, although it wasn’t until the mid-1980s she first offered a water color for sale. This captivating piece from 1975 shows that Susan’s style is recognizable in any medium. There is beautiful detail in the hair and the gracefully flowing gossamer cape. The butterfly in her hand adds to the warmth and delicacy that often enhanced Susan's work, and, of course, there’s the moon added as the finishing touch. As Susan said in an interview, talking about the moon in her work: “It’s almost like a signature. It felt that when I put the moon in it was finished. Sort of like a stamp.”

There are only a few known water colors done in the 1970s. Most likely a companion piece, painted at the same time as the "Moon Maiden" watercolor offered in the October 2022 sale.

This original work has been re-framed with an antiqued, textured, “bronzed”, custom wood frame. Archival triple-matted, with a linen top mat. Acid-free materials throughout and re-glazed with Museum conservation, Tru-Vue, UV protective glass. Signed by Susan Boulet bottom-center. Undated.
